| Drinking and Gambling...good times |
[Aug. 17th, 2009|01:56 pm] |
A bum asks a man for $2.
The man asks "Will you buy booze?"
The bum says "No."
The man asks "Will you gamble it away?"
The bum says "No."
Then the man says "Will you come home with me, so my wife can see what happens to a man who doesn't drink or gamble?" |

A frog with magical powers came upon a bear who was chasing a rabbit. He told them if they could learn to be friends he would give them each three wishes.
The bear said "I want every bear in the forest to be female, except for me." There was a magical sound and it was done.
The rabbit said "I want a helmet." The bear and frog thought that request odd but so be it. There was a magical sound and it was done.
Then the bear said "I want all the bears in the forest next-door to be female, too." There was a magical sound and it was done.
The rabbit said "I want a Vespa motor scooter with side mirrors and chrome fenders." There was a magical sound and it was done.
Then the bear said "I want all bears in the world to be female, except for me." There was a magical sound and it was done.
And the rabbit said "I want the bear to be gay."
And he got on his scooter and took off. |

| Dang car... |
[Aug. 7th, 2009|01:41 pm] |
So, the car wasn't right after they replaced the ECM and Injector pump. It took too long every morning to start, cranking over repeatedly. Also, the dealer shorted me some cosmetic parts under the hood. I took it back, and they put in the new cosmetic parts, and told me it was a weak battery or the fuel filter. To change the battery, they wanted $200. The fuel filter was $90. I told them I could do it myself. "But if you lose power in the car, you'll have to bring it back here so we can reprogram all the settings." My response? "Jumper cables!" I got a new battery from Interstate (we get a discount there) for $100. It's a BIG battery. The fuel filter was $26 at AutoZone. I now know why the people on the forums refer to them as "stealers". |

I just spent 5+ hours up on a silver metal roof, installing gutter screens. I got to the Greenwood store at 6am, just in time for dawn. It was already warm. I used up the 11 rolls of gutter screen I had, and by then it was 8:45. The sun was well up, and things were getting a little toasty. I went and got some more screen and installed another 5 rolls. I got off the roof at about 11am. Good thing, too. The silver galvanized metal was reflecting so much heat today that my feet were getting burned through the soles of my shoes.
It's been so long since I've spent hot time on a roof, I forgot how hot it can get.
I'm still a little nauseous from getting too hot. But, I got one building completely done. |

| Deck is done! On to the sidewalk! |
[Jun. 16th, 2009|03:27 pm] |
So, I started a week ago, ripping out concrete and tearing out the old frames for the screened-in porch. Block and large chunks of concrete were hauled away. There was enough weight in the back of my big Ford to sit down on the overload springs. Two loads like that. On Friday morning, dad came up with the big white dump truck and skid loader. We're hauling out block and concrete and fill, when the street dept guy pulls up. It seems we need a permit to cross the right-of-way. Which I own, mow, and clear the snow from. I had to pay $50 for permission to use land THAT I ALREADY OWN!!!! I hate living in town. Out in the country, if someone tries that crap, you level a shotgun at them and politely ask that they get the hell off your land. So we got the permit, I hauled 3 big loads to the landfill, and we got the new corner post set to hold up the roof. We re-pointed the mortar joints in the foundation, and called it a night. On Saturday, we started early and had the bandboards and posts done quickly. The joists were in and we went to get the deckboards at noon. Dad left at about 2:30, and I started working on cutting around the 2 posts. I got 2 rows of boards done and gave up for the evening. On Sunday, Lissa came over and we managed to get the rest of the deckboards installed. I had some scraps left over, so I made some baseboard to go around the posts. And now, the finished product. Unfortunately, the sidewalk was poorly made as well, so we had to tear it out. I'll put a new one in in a week or so. |

| Eat it, Gassers! |
[Jun. 10th, 2009|08:42 am] |
So, gas is about 30 cents MORE per gallon than diesel, which I paid $2.45 for yesterday. I love my 50mpg car!
Talked to a guy the other day who lived in Europe for a couple of years. He brought back a Ford Fiesta. I know, egg car. It has a 1.4l diesel, and he gets over 70mpg!
Um, that's better than a precious hybrid.
Why won't Ford sell those things here?!? WHY!!!! |

Bob: Junior, that new litter of pups you got over at your house, when they was born you said they was democrats. Now you're going around telling everybody they're republicans? Junior: That was three weeks ago. They got their eyes open now. |

| Week off |
[May. 11th, 2009|08:06 am] |
I took last week off and worked at home to get some things done. 1. I finished up the Ford dually project. I did a bunch of add-ons to a buddy's '95 F-350 diesel dually tow pig. I replaced the exhaust, added gauges, a transmission control module, and air helper spring system for the rear springs. 2. I got central air. A friend from the storage lot who does HVAC cut me a great deal and we installed my a/c. "There is no pleasure, no rapture, no exquisite sin greater than central air." - Azrael, in Dogma 3. I transplanted flowers. I moved the peonies that were growing in the yard to the planter area next to the driveway. 4. I hauled off trash. I hauled concrete bits left from the pouring of the driveway and tossed them, and hauled a bunch of old car batteries to Insterstate and got some $ for them.
A pretty busy week, but a lot was accomplished.
Now back to work. It's good to get away, but it's lousy to get back. |

| Politics is funny! |
[Mar. 18th, 2009|01:08 pm] |
So, Congress wrote a bill to bail out companies like AIG. Now, the very people who wrote the bill are mad about bonuses being paid. Bonuses which are allowed under the bill they wrote. Shocking!
Congress: Do you honestly expect us to swallow that you share our indignance? You wrote the bill! You said they pay bonuses! You rubber-stamped your approval onto it! But now that you've noticed that the public is pissed about it, you want to stand up in front of the cameras and talk about how wrong it is?
People like that are what is wrong in politics. It's all about power and control.
These people would make the pope himself vomit with rage. |

| It's driving me batty! |
[Mar. 9th, 2009|05:25 pm] |
So a couple of weeks ago, I was walking out to the living and a bat flew by my head. By the time I grabbed shoes and went to open the front door, he was gone. I thought he had gotten out of the house somewhere else. I'm not even sure how he got in.
So, last night, I'm laying in bed and getting ready to turn the TV off, and he started flying around my bedroom. He headed out to the living/dining room, and I went after him. After our first encounter, I've been keeping a tennis racket handy. So I grab the racket, head out to the living room, and popped him on the first swing. He hit the wall, fell to the floor, and that's where he died. I scooped him up with a shovel, and dumped him in the yard.
Nothing like being completely awake at 11pm.
In a way, I feel bad for the little guy. He was just looking for a warm place. And we all know how beneficial bats are as far as eating bugs, especially mosquitoes. So, I feel a little sad for the little brown bat. He wasn't all that big, maybe 3 inches long. But, he did NOT need to be in my house.
Rodents are not welcome in my house, whether they are aerial or ground-based. |

| Ha! Suck it! |
[Mar. 6th, 2009|12:59 pm] |
To all the people who talked about how much more expensive diesel is than gas:
I filled up the car w/ diesel today for $1.97/gal. Gas was $2.03/gal at the same place. My car gets better mileage and the fuel is cheaper! Haw haw!
Sorry, I just can't help myself. I love my little veedub, love the fuel mileage, heated seats, the little sunvisor over the rearview mirror, power windows, and the sure-footedness of the car.
It is now officially cheaper to drive my TDI than a hybrid. And the batteries are cheaper, and fewer. |

| Boat begone... |
[Mar. 5th, 2009|05:46 pm] |
The boat is sold! Yea! Two more things almost taken care of. I have nearly completed baby step 3 (saving 3-6 months of living expenses) from the Total Money Makeover. I am now debt free with an in-place emergency fund. That doesn't mean I'm going to stop saving money, though... |
